Pressure on the skin can loosen stiff muscle and increase blood flow. Beside the pressure, heat is also an important factor of a massage to keep us health and beautiful. It also increases our bloodflow and uses our senses to increase our own healing capability.
There are several factors, which cause our tissue to become stiff and sore. Massaging is extremly adviced by doctors after situations like:
- movements done repeatedly over and over again
- Too much pull on the muscle
- not being active enaugh
- too much stress
- bad posture
- injuries
- surgery
A massage makes us relax. Relaxation can improve body's immune system. When the body is stressed, the immune system is less able to fight off disease.
Massage therapy improves the circulation of blood and lymph. Lymph is a milky, white substance that constantly moves waste products out of our body tissues.
Effect on skin
massage stimulates the glands of the skin. Skin glends are the ones responcible for keeping our skin cool and moisturized.
Massage risks
A massage is generally safe. However in certain cases it is not advised:
- If you have a blood vessel disease, if there is a clot in a vein, if you have cardiovascular disease, please check in with your doctor before starting a massage therapy.
- A massage of an unhealthy skin (burns, infections, herpes, open cuts or bruises) is not adviced.
- If you have severe back pain, check with your doctor before having a massage.
- During the first three months of pregnancy, some massage types are not adviced.
- If you broke a bone or you have a severe osteoporosis. You should avoid massage.
